"New Work" by Hermie Cornelisse
Lagoon, Grid and Loop series

Ceramics and paintings by established Tasmanian artist Hermie Cornelisse.

For some five years the grid has been the main framework from which all of Hermie's art work has been derived.

In an eight week residency in Narawntapu National Park, up the north of Tasmania, Hermie literally used a persex grid across her face to filter and structure the landscape. This eventually lead her to flattening out of the grid into horizonal plains or strip.

The Lagoon series was one result of these flattened strips. The blackness of the water, the browns of the earth, and the reflection of the blue sky, mirror exactly what she saw.

The LOOP series (represented by 5 pieces in this show) was inspired by a self-imposed blindness which lead Hermie to a series of simplified works where form and surface treatment are one.

This is Hermie's second exhibition with Precinct Galleries. Since her first exhibition in November 2003 Hermie has been featured in national and ?? International?? show of Tasmanian artists.

Friday November 11th to extended to Monday Monday 12th December 2005
